Listening In Prayer Part 1

Song of Solomon 2:14

O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me HEAR thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

shaw-mah’ (HEAR) a primitive root; to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention, obedience, etc.; give ear

This is such an INTENSE “prayer verse”. In this passage the King (Jesus) is speaking to His bride (the church). In this one verse we see our prayer POSITION (clefts of the rock =hidden), REVELATION and ASCENT into the HEAVENLIES (secret places of the stairs=elevation), and God’s desire to longingly look at us (let me see thy countenance).

But what has been jumping out to me lately is the part that says “let me hear thy voice”. This has to do with LISTENING. God LOVES to LISTEN to us. He thinks our voice is sweet. When He looks at us He desires to HEAR us. When we pray NEVER forget that God LOVES to hear our voice.

So when we are at the next prayer meeting, on the next prayer call, praying with a friend on the phone, etc, never think that we shouldn’t pray because we aren’t skilled or qualified enough. This isn’t a talent show. There aren’t a group of judges in heaven judging how well you can pray. The truth is God just wants to hear our voice. So the moment we open our mouths and speak in prayer…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. God just wants to hear our voice. Don’t deprive Him any longer. Lift up your voice to Him in every prayer session, whether you are alone or with others. Not only is He listening for our voice, but he LOVES to LISTEN to us.
